Logitech QuickCam Messenger (861092-0020 V-UM14)
It seems like this camera is no longer produced by Logitech, it has been replaced by another Messenger model (960-000129). I will do my best to test that camera, to compare how the things evolved the last 3-4 years. QuickCam Messenger was produced in 2003, it was a middle level camera with integrated microphone. The quality of sound is very good, traditionally for Logitech, at least this is the case of all the cameras tested until now by me.
The camera will be impossible to fixate on your LCD monitor or laptop, because the mounting "mechanism" it's just a peace of rubber that doesn't even let you swivel normally, as supposed, the camera up and down. The good thing, is that you can rotate the camera around for 360 degrees, but only about 10 degrees up and about 25 degrees down, and nothing at all on any side. Manual focus is something normal in this price range, and for a camera made 5 years ago, but it's a little to sensitive. Image quality is just unacceptable for the price of the web-cam. If you will take a look at the sample images, you would see that there is noise even under bright light, I was really disappointed. With the low light condition, things are even worse, the images are milky white and very noisy. Logitech QuickCam Messenger is using a 100k or CIF (352x288) sensor, you can make still images at 0,3Mp (640x480) with interpolation, but they are really noisy. The lens are small, about 2mm in diameter, located deep inside, behind a glass. On top of the webcam it's located the snapshot button and in front the microphone. Overall I must say that this camera disappointed me, there should be something more for this price, even from Logitech.

Verdict: I really hope that the new Messenger will do better, because this one does not get my recommendation. Search for something else.
